I happen to be on a blog the other day titled “Smarten Up Nas” (pretty good blog), and it got me really thinking, what is really wrong with the Rap Legend. This is not a critique on his lyrics or music catalogue but his decisions in the music business.

What makes me question Mr. Jones is that he went from being the King of New York, to taken orders from a dude that told him he left his condom on his baby’s car seat. I am not promoting grudge holding because that can cause ulcers, but to be under the guy, that is some serious Irony.

I don’t think that was the foul up, yea it is was a bad situation and I did question Nas, but it was temporary position for Jay and maybe Nas knew that. Where I think Nasir did or is doing wrong is the decisions he is making in the music business or lack of. What makes Jay different is that he set himself up through taking opportunities and even making them when there were none available, he is a bonafide hustler to the bone. Nas on the other hand, is between a rock and hard place in business where seniority works against you, Nas decided to bet solely on his experience and his rhyming capability and he lucked out.

The funny thing is at first Nas had a hustle going, Remember Ill Will Records, and Willie Esco clothing, but I don’t know if it was legal issues or just a lost of interest, but all Nas has to show for himself is himself and that is just not good enough for this day and age. Now in an effort to cause some sort of controversy he has titled his new album “Nigger” to get a response from the media, but its not panning out as he thought.

I’m not saying that he should be worth 300 million like the Jigga man, but if he doesn’t learn to diversify some how, he might go the way of many surreal life contestants, a “has been” trying to claim what he had.
