Renaissance: rebirth- the revival of learning and culture

I have realized something being in Toronto and taking in the workings of the local industry here. Toronto needs a renaissance and fast, let me explain.

There are many issues that are slowing down Toronto from flourishing into a successful location for entertainment and fashion, and just like how the French did it in the 1400’s, Toronto needs to revive in the areas of art and culture.

Now don’t get me wrong Toronto is a great place, I love being here and I support this city because it is my home, but these issues have been going on for bit too long and it is getting annoying.

The first issue is what I call the hate/support complex. TO is known for unnecessary hating, it is so bad that we have gotten the name Screw Face capital and people are fed up. On the flipside you have individuals that are just on this earth to “support”. We obviously know why just straight hating is not progressive for Toronto (there have been many songs and lines about “dem haters”…I don’t need to explain it), but some people believe that just showing “support” to artist, business, etc. well move Toronto into the right direction…hmm No, that is probably worse than hating altogether, let me give you an example why; a bad singer gets good compliments from friends to motivate him, with these compliments he feels like he has great talent, he then goes to American Idol..and meets Simon Cowell, Simon lets the poor guy have it and his dreams are shattered from the comments. Now looking back, showing that sort of support hurt him more then it helped.
It’s important to support artists by letting them know if they are bad, and if an artist has talent we should be showing love (and a lot of it). This is important because it keeps the talented/skillful artists at the top and keeps lacking artist at a level were they are growing their skills. In a nutshell we have to be balanced.

Another issue that really frustrates me is people who are not patriotic to their city (repping your set type of thing). One of our first post on liveagl was about how New Yorkers really support there city, and how we don’t give a shit about ours. It sucks, but I can see where it stems from because Toronto is a multicultural city, it is still not an excuse though. I believe that we should be proud of where were from and support it because you are your city. If it is such a problem for some people they can exit…If they are old enough to get into events and clubs they are old enough to relocate…

Back to the Renaissance idea, if we are able to fix those two issues we might be able to go through a pleasant renaissance were we become a major metropolis as far as entertainment and fashion. There is no law anywhere that says Toronto cannot be as influential New York or Atlanta.
