There is a new HBO series called Generation Kill and it was created by The Wire’s Co-Creator s David Simon and Ed Burns. The story tells of complex point of view and patient organizational movement through a military unit, the Marines’ 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, that embedded Rolling Stone reporter Evan Wright followed during the 2003 invasion of the Iraq, which turned into a 2004 book of the same name.

The series starts off slow similar to the Wire, at first glance you feel as if very little takes place during the series’ first episode, and that’s what’s so sly about it. Generation Kill spends its first hour seemingly showing a Marine unit’s rank and file bored with waiting to invade a country, worried about the condition of the vehicles they’ll be riding in if they’re ever called upon to invade that country, and, in general, dicking around with each other when they’re introduced to the Rolling Stone reporter who will be riding with them–fresh meat to the camp whom they can haze and humor.
As the episodes continue, you are slowly pulled into the story and anticipate every new episode so you can further enjoy the addictive developing story.

The series is on Episode 5 and you can catch it on HBO in America, and TMN in Canada..
