I was really happy when a friend of mine, T. la Rock, introduced me to Girl Talk, because now I have a great addition to my already assorted playlist.

Girl Talk is an alias for Gregg Michael Gillis , an American musician specializing in mashups and digital sampling. He produces mashup-style remixes, in which he often uses a dozen or more unauthorized samples from different songs to create something new.

I thought that the name Girl Talk for a guy was very odd but this is what Gregg had to say about the name;

The name Girl Talk is a reference to many things, products, magazines, books. It’s a pop culture phrase. The whole point of choosing the name early on was basically to just stir things up a little within the small scene I was operating from. I came from a more experimental background and there were some very overly serious, borderline academic type electronic musicians. I wanted to pick a name that they would be embarrassed to play with. You know Girl Talk sounded exactly the opposite of a man playing a laptop, so that’s what I chose.

Like most DJs, Gillis has a great set of ears and a hell of a laptop to create the magic I’ve become a fan of.

One of my favourite albums from him is Feed The Animals. It was number four on Time‘s Top 10 Albums of 2008.
