If you are looking for gritty action that is dark and rough, “Narc” would probably be your best bet. It stars Jason Patric as Nick Tellis, an undercover narcotic agent who is ordered to investigate the murder of fellow undercover narc with the help of that agent’s former partner Lt. Henry Oak, played by Ray Liotta. The search for the murderer takes them through the underbelly of the city filled with drugs and crime, but as the search progresses, Tellis starts to question Oak’s motives and actions.

I don’t want to reveal too much, because the movie is somewhat predictable, however the few turns and twists make it interesting. What really makes the movie for me is the atmosphere and how it looks, it is very gritty, one example is when the two cops visit an informant’s home, and you can really feel the grime of the individuals living arrangements.

The movie reminds me of a law and order episode where two detectives go on a search to find witness’, but with a higher degree of chaos and questionable activity (from both sides). I would recommend this movie, however due to the predictable nature of the film, some parts might stretch out, but it’s still worth a watch.
