I know some of you have that WDF! Face on right now, but don’t judge the blog post by its title image. Akira is a very strong movie that has gathered a huge cult following all over the world. The movie is a Japanese animation, but it is done so well that star director Hype Williams and the Louis Vuitton Don, Kanye West incorporated the movie into the “Stronger” video (They are big fans).

The movie is a real mindf*ck so I will try explain it as best as I can; Kaneda is a bike gang leader whose close friend Tetsuo gets involved in a government secret project known as Akira. On his way to save Tetsuo, Kaneda runs into a group of anti-government activists, greedy politicians, irresponsible scientists and a powerful military leader. The confrontation sparks off Tetsuo’s supernatural power leading to bloody death, a coup attempt and the final battle in Tokyo Olympiad where Akira’s secrets were buried 30 years ago.

I’m a fan of a lot of Japanese anime films because they showcase some of the best plots, screen play, and visuals, but with Akira you don’t need to be an anime connoisseur to enjoy it, you just simply need to appreciate a good movie. The two strongest factors about this film are the life-like visuals, and the life-like plot and screenplay. Those factors work together to make this movie an incredible, believable fantasy experience.
