Is The Print Medium Heading To The Graveyard?

After hearing and posting the news of King Magazine’s closure, I started to really think about the medium and its future. If you watch CNN or any News based channel, you will notice all the reports of local and even national newspapers going under.
It makes absolute sense, because we are in economic sh*t storm, and more importantly, people have the internet. The web enables quick and efficient exchange of information, so the same news you get from reading a magazine or a newspaper you can get quicker through a computer.
This situation puts the print industry in jeopardy. Luckily many smart publications have moved their magazine partially or fully online to adapt to the changing industry.
Personally I don’t think print will die – I don’t see myself bringing a laptop to the washroom to do my business anytime soon – however a forgiving industry does not make up for a lack of creativity. Thus, for magazines to secure success in the future, they will need to become more innovative and relative to our ever changing society,

It really all depends how many people get comfortable with technology. They way I see it, business people are more interested on receiving info about stocks and news of that sort. And they want it readily available as quickly as possible. Nothing does that better for them than their PDA’s or Blackberrys ro iPhones. As for the rest of the world…news papers such as The New York Times or the Wall Street Journal will keep selling but at a declining rate. Most people get those types of papers merely as a means to confirm their “status” image.
