I understand that some people achieve success at a quicker rate than others. This coincides with the saying “The right opportunity at the right time”. But then there’s Drake-a name that has come to be synonymous with the word “success”. Just the other day, I came across a CNN clip of Drake being asked about his Grammy nomination. A Grammy nomination for an album that hasn’t even dropped yet! Regardless of the album drop date, he’s actually nominated for Song of the Year, which is awarded to the writer(s)/composer(s) of a single song.

He’s in a dangerous group, up against great artists such as Eminem, Mos Def, Jay-Z, T.I., Rihanna, Kanye West and Justin Timberlake. Now some might say “oh it’s just two nominations”, but that’s two nominations more than artists out there who have albums out. On the other hand, there are people out there who feel that being nominated this early in his career is just too ridiculous, especially without a proper album out for the Grammy eligibility year.

On a personal note, I’m proud of Drake with all his achievements and how far he’s come. I won’t rain on his parade, but rather continue to shine along with city of Toronto in support of our Hip Hop rookie superstar. I hope that he will continue to be a lyrical force to be reckoned with as the future comes to pass.
